USGS has a new type of topo map called "US Topo"
We highly recommend that you click on http://nationalmap.gov/ustopo/quickstart.pdf to download a really easy tutorial on how to access these new free (for download) topo maps. They are VERY different from past topo maps in that they are delivered in GeoPDF format, and contain an orthophoto backdrop!
