A new "Ports and Commercial Harbors" dataset was posted today to RIGIS under the "Facilities and Structures" section.
This dataset is an output of a study conducted by the Coastal Resources Center and the Environmental Data Center at the Univerisity of Rhode Island, with support from Rhode Island Statewide Planning's Challenge Grant Program. The study provided statewide data that informs the waterborne-freight, marine transportation and land use planning decision-making process. It consisted of 1) a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) based inventory of marine commercial/industrial uses and infrastructure and their current utilization of Rhode Island ports and commercial harbors; and 2) Recommendations for future enhancement of marine commercial/industrial uses and infrastructure that can collectively resolve some pressing state issues.
